Ep 12. Morning Routines of Successful Entrepreneurs with Hal Elrod

Hal started a coaching business and was able to build it up to $10,000 a month pretty quickly.  Then 2008 hit.  Suddenly he lost over half of his clients and his income dropped to $4,000 a month.  Considering his mortgage was $3,200 a month and he had over $1,000 per month in business expenses, he had to turn to credit cards.  6 months later, Hal had racked up over $52,000 in credit card debt.  He could no longer afford to pay his mortgage so he lost his house to the bank.  Things were spiraling out of control.  He stopped working out and become deeply depressed and suicidal.

One day, while on a run he heard a Jim Rohn quote that would change his life. “Your level of success will seldom exceed your level of personal development.”  He was suddenly insprired to create the personal development habits that would create and sustain the success he wanted.  He researched the best personal development practices, and came out with six.

The next morning, he woke up at 6am to do what he now refers to as the “Life S.A.V.E.R.S.”

  • Silence (meditation)
  • Affirmations
  • Visualization
  • Exercise
  • Reading
  • Scribing (writing)

In less than 2 months, his income went from $4,000 to $12,000 without changing jobs. He was simply applying the lessons he was learning from his reading, and had developed the right mental attitude to scale his business 300%.  Hal went from being in the worst shape of his life to running a 52 mile ultra-marathon, and his depression was gone in a matter of days.  His transformation was so radical that he began to call it his “Miracle Morning”.

Today, the Miracle Morning has made a material impacts in the lives of many of today’s successful entrepreneurs.

How do you start your days? If you listen to Tim Ferris’ podcast, this is one thing he constantly asks his guests.  What is their morning routine like?  There is reason for this… your morning routine, sets the tone for your entire day.  And it took me a while to realize it, but my morning routine was holding me back from achieving my goals.

If you’re are like me, after your alarm goes off, probably one of the first things you do is check your email.  Then maybe you hop on social media, then its time to hit the shower, grab breakfast, then you’re off to work.  What I didn’t realize at the time, was that this was putting my brain into a state of reaction.  I was reacting to the emails that I just received, responding the the texts I missed.  I was allowing external forces to influence my focus.  In the process of surrounding myself with people who were living the life I wanted to be living, I realized, none of them do this.  The most successful people own their morning. In today’s episode, you are going to meet the author of the national best selling book The Miracle Morning, which  has been credited by many successful entrepreneurs for changing the quality of their lives.  Today, you learn how to own your mornings, with my friend Hal Elrod.
